Derby Gal Magazine was actually sparked by research that Michele had
been doing for an upcoming book, Blood and Thunder. After completing
the book, Michele decided that she hadn't had enough of roller derby and
wanted to share her love for the sport with the rest of the world. In late
June 2006, she came up with the idea to start a magazine dedicated solely
to the sport and with the help of her contributors, launched Derby Gal in
